Introducing the Four ACE Pillars

Self-Direct [action oriented]

"Self-direct" means to take initiative and action to guide your own learning and path, without relying on external direction. Make decisions, set goals, and direct your choices and actions.

Example:" I will take the initiative to use the new systems to work more efficiently for me, my team, and our clients".

Self-Manage [decision-making OR responsibility and accountability]

"Self-manage" means to be responsible and accountable for your own thoughts, emotions, and actions. Stay focused and disciplined on what you want to achieve. Take ownership. Manage your time and responsibilities.

Example: "I will carve out time to master new procedures to meet deadlines and fulfill my responsibilities".

Self-Advocate [communication]

"Self-advocacy" means to communicate and take action for your rights, interests, or wellbeing. Identify your needs, clearly express yourself, ask for help, and speak up for what is important to you and others.

Example: "When a new work process or policy is complex, and I do not understand it, I will speak up and ask my supervisor or team lead for clarification rather than stay silent and risk making mistakes on the job".

Self-Correct [feedback and resources]

"Self-correct" means to adjust your actions, thoughts, or work in order to improve. Reflect on your performance, seek feedback from others, and use both to identify and correct mistakes to continuously improve.

Example: "Reflecting on my performance, I will identify where I’m stuck, get my supervisor’s feedback, and develop a plan to improve".
